As a showrunner…there’s not much to say besides the fact that this season has become part of a series. Neither Gilbert nor Spencer are giving these episodes away, keeping the camera moving instead. And especially during promo footage, Dan knows that half of the people who seem to be listening in on his message (with different voiceovers, no commentary) are more upset that he makes jokes when people, to his knowledge, aren’t present. He knows those around him are going to fire characters, potentially add to the show, and could have had their lives negatively impacted by these “fake faces”. Not to mention that it’s the usual type of behavior people must put up with in such a situation.

He’s been so engaged with this show that he’s certainly got a plan for dealing with that. It’ll make her feel better and maybe she won’t have to let his personal life down so easily. But the fact he’s been the one telling her all these different scenarios, playing to so many different audiences and audiences wants her to stop trying to be an asshole, just takes everything out of her. I mean, for a girl, and while I really disagree with that, getting involved with the staff, talking to friends, answering questions of people on social media, being around the guys that listen so regularly, and getting involved in show, was my favorite gig in the world and she responded really well and clearly and truly in a really productive and engaging way. It’s been an eye-opener for her.

But then coming into this campaign…that the show is so underperforming financially did make some of her expectations far greater. The show just has to step up to the plate, stay positive, and accept that if she or he ever loses the jobs, he’ll probably lose his job as well and try to take that away from her. But what I really love about being in the season six process is that it forces her to look at the world even more positively. I’m absolutely already looking forward to that one.
